LandscapingLeaf BlowersWellesley has been having conversations regarding Leaf Blowers & Our Health trying to determine what is right for our community. If you missed it you can watch it HERE, and please feel free to share it with your friends and neighbors!
Click here to meet Krishna, one of many Wellesley residents rethinking lawn care habits. Want to learn and do more? Please find additional materials here on what experts say about our families' health and here on green zones. Organic LandscapersBelow are some landscapers and yard management companies in our area. We would love for you to check them out, and tell us what you think in the comments below. We haven’t used all of these so please do some research. What we DO know is that if you are looking to build your yard rather than poison and drug it to death, this is the place to start!
There are lots of companies that do not go through the certification process but also use organic integrated pest management. If you find one let us know. Do beware of firms that say “we do it all – organic/inorganic and we will do organic if you like” they tend to revert to their inorganic ways quite quickly, then you’re back in the kill-and-drug cycle again. So – check out these options and let us know what you find!
Pledge to be Pesticide FreePesticides are dangerous chemicals, and once sprayed on your yard they are picked up on shoes and clothing and carried into your house. Once inside they degrade very slowly and will be absorbed by adults, children and pets. One of the most popular herbicides, Roundup, has been found by the EPA to “probably cause cancer”. That’s something you don’t need in your house or yard. All of Wellesley’s public fields and properties have been pesticide-free for over 10 years, and they look great!
Make the break today and join the other households in Wellesley that are poison-free, and proudly put your pin on the map. I pledge not to poison my yard. Please add your address here to be added to Wellesley's pesticide free map! |
