Fall-blooming asters provide a late season boost to pollinators in addition to offering a late season burst of color. These quintessential New England flowers will create a natural woody pollinator pocket garden. These asters are low maintenance, easy growing plants.
The Fall Kit includes:
> white wood aster
White wood aster is one of several native flowers that thrive in the dry, acidic shade so typical of New England. Blooming well into Fall and yielding fluffy bunches of seeds thereafter, this easy-going species works just as well in all but full-sun. Height: 12-24". Spread: 12-18".
> New England American-aster / New England aster
New England aster is a gorgeous, tall Fall bloomer that attracts numerous pollinators and hosts the Crescent butterfly. It's best in meadow gardens or as a backdrop to shorter plants like Rudbeckia. Height: 2-4'. Spread: 2-3'.
> blue wood aster
This great shade-tolerant aster adds a perfect touch of color to the woodland garden. In Autumn when little else is in bloom, it emerges with clouds of pale blue to purple flowers, seeding itself out readily and serving as a great late-season nectar source for pollinators. Height: 12-36". Spread: 18-24".
