Members of Sustainable Wellesley, Wellesley Climate Action Committee, Selectboard Lise Olney and Marilyn Ray Smit of Gas Transition Allies met with Representative Alice Peisch this week to discuss the legislative priorities related to a possible House climate bill.
Representative Peisch asked smart questions and was responsive to our top priority message: the Future of Clean Heat bill (S.2105/H.3203). This bill contains a number of key provisions that are critical to the transition off gas, including a requirement for gas companies to file plans to retire the gas system over the next 25 years. This provision and others in the bill are very much in alignment with the DPU 20-80 order, which specifically cites the need for legislative action to make it possible for the DPU to implement changes necessary for achieving the Commonwealth’s 2050 climate targets.
Stay tuned, more to come.
